Imperialism - The policy of seeking to extend the power, dominion, or territories of a nation. (The Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

I do a bit of reading on the internet - personal journals, blogs, message boards, etc. It's disheartening to keep coming across the word "imperialistic" being used in reference to what is going on in Iraq. I have to go easy on most of these people though since it is obvious that they are taking political science courses at Dumb University and merely repeating what their ex-hippy teachers are saying.

The worst part of it is that the word, "imperialistic," if these people actually know what the word means, cannot be used when describing our current actions or goals for Iraq.

Regardless of whether you agree with what the Bush administration is doing in Iraq - no clear eyes will find evidence of imperialism.

We are not seeking to extend our powers over Iraq nor are we attempting to bring the country under our dominion as one of our territories.

Part of our goal for Iraq is to help stablize things so that free elections can be held so that all of you brainwashed disciples of ex-hippies have a decent country to move to.

6/4/04: Someone commented: "Ever hear of oil?" This is a typical response from someone who usually just repeats slogans or rhetoric that they hear in class or read on the internet. If Liberals would just allow us to use the oil that we have right here, under the ground, in our OWN country we would no longer have to be dependent on foreign oil. The United States does not control oil production in the Middle East and does not control any of the oil fields in Iraq nor is there any evidence that we wish to do so.

Comment We should stop buying oil from the Middle East period. We don't need it. I wonder how much of the money that we pump into the Middle East is used by terrorists to fund their worldwide operations? They don't hold bake sales to send people to America to take flight lessons.

Comment Man, I don't know what you're beef is, but you are awfully quick to judge someone very quickly based on their disagreement with you. When you make broad, sweeping statements like "If the Liberals would just let us..." and "The United States does not control oil production in the Middle East and does not control any of the oil fields in Iraq nor is there any evidence that we wish to do so." you better be able to back it up with substantial facts. You're right we don't control oil in Iraq...yet. But we do have a vested interest and economic dependence with Saudi Arabia (who, by the way is harboring more terrorists than Iraq). We don't control oil directly, but we certainly control the demand for it. Please, debate the word imperialism all you want, what the USA is doing, like every other powerful civilization has done throughout history, is exploit the weaker for its benefit. You may think you are better or smarter than us mindless liberals, but the truth is you don't present a lot fact here, just contrary opinion, which is great for a good temper-tantrum. So go ahead and rip apart this comment all you want. I'm sure that's what you'll do.
